Washington University Coordinator for the Youth Oriented "Rock the Vote" Campaign
Bio Snapshot:
Missouri may be a swing state, but Josh Gantz is determined to rock the Show Me State. He's the Washington University coordinator for the youth-oriented Rock the Vote campaign and is also working with the group's St. Louis Community Street Team, going to baseball games, concerts, malls, and other venues to get people registered to vote. He also works on campus with Project Democracy to register and educate his fellow students.
"We have registered over 1,000 people on campus since January, and we are still going strong," says Gantz. "Being a swing state, as well as host to one of the presidential debates, means that Washington University students have an obligation to be politically active this year. We hope that by registering, educating, and getting out the vote, we can accomplish this goal."
Gantz volunteered at the Democratic National Convention this past summer and worked this fall for Democrat Jeff Smith, who ran in the primaries for the congressional seat, that Rep. Richard Gephardt is leaving. Smith narrowly lost, but is credited with generating strong interest among young people.
