Expertise: products liability, torts, race and the legal profession, race and education, civil procedure, civil justice, stereotypes and biases in the courtroom
Bio: Kimberly Norwood, an expert on the impact of race on education and the legal profession, also is available to discuss products liability and torts issues. In addition to her work at the law school, Norwood teaches a workshop for St. Louis public school teachers as part of a grant provided by the U.S. Dept of Education's "Teaching American History" program. Norwood's workshop is titled: "The Struggle for Education in Black America: From Slavery through the Reconstruction." It is an interdisciplinary endeavor with other departments and programs within Washington University, including the history department, the education department, the American cultural studies program, and the African and African American studies program.

Additional Background: After graduation from law school Norwood was a judicial clerk for the Honorable Clifford Scott Green in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Thereafter Professor Norwood joined the St. Louis law firm of Bryan, Cave, McPheeters, & McRoberts where she practiced law in the litigation department.
Her recent articles include "Blackthink™ "Acting White" Stigma in Education & How It Fosters Academic Paralysis in Black Youth," 50(3) How L.J. 711(2006-2007), "The Virulence of Blackthink™ and How Its Threat of Ostracism Shackles Those Deemed Not Black Enough," 93 Kentucky Law Journal 144 (2005).
Norwood's legal affiliations include membership in the American Law Institute ("ALI"), Board Member and Vice President of the Mid-Western People of Color Legal Scholarship Conference, Inc., Disciplinary Hearing Officer for the Missouri Supreme Court, membership in the Tort Trial & Insurance Section of the American Bar Association, and membership in the Mound City Bar Association, the oldest African-American Bar organization in St. Louis.
