Bio: Marchant is an active St. Louis dancer and choreographer. In addition to his work at Washington University, he is artistic advisor to Atrek Contemporary Dance Company and on faculty at COCA (the Center of Contemporary Arts).

The Performing Arts Department in Arts & Sciences will present its third biennial Young Choreographers Showcase March 28 to 30 in the Annelise Mertz Dance Studio. The concert will feature more than a dozen dancers in seven original works — ranging from ballet to modern, solos to large group works — by student choreographers in the PAD's Dance Program

Ballet and modern dance will share the stage with Indian Bharata Natyam and multi-media work in Dance Close-Up, an intimate presentation of new and original choreography by faculty in the Dance Program Sept. 9-11.

Additional Background: Marchant performed with Utah Repertory Dance Theatre from 1989 to 1991 and was a company member and artistic collaborator with Corning Dances & Company from 91-93. He has served as a guest performer with the Lake Erie Ballet and the Indianapolis Ballet and has taught master classes and residencies at such schools as American Dance Festival, University of Iowa, University of Illinois, and Stephens College.

Marchant has presented numerous works at Washington University and his dances also have been re-staged for Dance Repertory San Francisco, Suzanne Grace & Dancers, Chicago Academy of the Arts, and University of Iowa's touring dance company. His choreography has been honored five times in encore performances at the American College Dance Festival, as well as the National Festival in 1996. David is presently in the third of a three-year certification in the Alexander Technique. He is also a photographer, scuba diver, rock climber, and glider pilot.
