"Tensile Involvement" Alberto del Saz to lead modern dance workshop Oct. 7 (http://news-info.wustl.edu/news/page/normal/10154.html) Sept. 26, 2007 -- WUSTL Photo Services Alberto del Saz Download Acclaimed dancer Alberto del Saz, artistic director of the Murray Louis and Nikolais Dance Company as well as co-director of The Nikolais/Louis Foundation for Dance, will teach an open master class in modern dance technique at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, in the Annelise Mertz Dance Studio. Del Saz will spend a week on campus to set choreography for "Tensile Involvement," a signature work by the innovative multimedia choreographer Alwin Nikolais (1910-1993).

Re-imagining Motion Events to highlight legacy of Martha Graham Oct. 12 to 19 (http://news-info.wustl.edu/news/page/normal/7883.html) Oct. 3, 2006 -- Martha Graham (1894-1991) is among the most acclaimed choreographers of the 20th century. In October, the Performing Arts Department (PAD) in Arts & Sciences' Dance Program will host a weeklong series of public events with Gary Galbraith and Bonnie Oda Homsey, both former principal dancers with the Martha Graham Dance Company.

Alonzo King in residence Acclaimed dancer to present panel discussion Sept. 22; choreography Sept. 23 (http://news-info.wustl.edu/news/page/normal/5670.html) Sept. 1, 2005 -- Marty Sohl Alonzo King's LINES Ballet Download Acclaimed dancer/choreographer Alonzo King, founder and artistic director of Alonzo King's LINES Ballet in San Francisco, will take part in a public panel discussion on "Understanding Dance as the Language We Embody" at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22. The talk comes as part of a residency sponsored by a grant from the National College Choreography Initiative. The grant will support a variety of workshops and master classes with both King and Arturo Fernandez, ballet master for LINES, Sept. 12-23.

Her awards include an exchange fellowship to the University of Strasbourg, a Council of Students of Arts and Sciences Award for Outstanding Teaching and Dedication to Students, a Japan Foundation grant, and a Missouri Creative Artist Project grant. One of her research interests is Michio Ito, a Japanese born dancer who contributed to the development of modern dance in the United States. Her article "Michio Ito in Hollywood: Modes and Ironies of Ethnicity" appeared in Dance Chronicle last year. She is on the National Board of the American College Dance Festival Association and vice-president of the Missouri Dance Education Organization.
