Banjanin is an expert in 20th century Russian literature. Her main area of research is early 20th century Russian poetry. Her most recent articles are "The Mutual Reflection of Scene and Spectator in the Works of Aleksandr Blok" from The New Zealand Slovonic Journal. (2000) and "The City as a Framed Spectacle in the Works of Elena Guro" from In Twentieth Centurty Russian Literature. (2000) Several other articles on early 20th century literature are stated to be published in 2003.
