Mr. Harrington spent over 25 years in the telecommunications and information technology business. He has been a senior executive for five start-up companies and has also been involved with turn-around and roll-up consolidations in the technology industry. He is currently the Senior Lecturer in Entrepreneurship & Director, Skandalaris Center for Entrepreneurial Studies. He also serves as Investment Manager for the Olin School Hatchery™ Seed Capital Fund.

Record-breaking number of teams compete for Olin Cup prize

Entrepreneurship is thriving despite recession

Nov. 26, 2008 -- Entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in this year's Olin Cup competition with $70,000 in seed money at stake. A record-breaking 38 teams entered the annual business formation contest operated by the Skandalaris Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at Washington University in St. Louis. Five finalists are now in the final stage of the competition which concludes with business plan presentations in January; winners will be announced Feb. 5, 2009.


Four area non-profits garner prizes totaling $110,000

WUSTL's Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation Competition winners have an artistic bent

April 18, 2008 -- On April 17, four local nonprofits were honored at the Awards Dinner for the 3rd annual Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation Competition (SEIC). The winners are StudioSTL, LiveFeed, BEGIN and Indego Africa. The groups will receive a total of $110,000 in cash and in-kind support for successfully demonstrating that their ventures have social value and that their group has the ability to implement its plans.

Feb. 7, 2008 --
Release embargoed until 9 p.m. Feb. 7, 2008. Two student-owned business startups won the top honors at the Olin Cup Competition award ceremony Thursday, Feb. 7. The first place award of $50,000 went to Is That One Good? an internet web site where consumers can compare notes on goods and services. The second place, $25,000 prize went to MedExceed, a medical device company. The awards were announced at a ceremony on Feb. 7 at Washington University in St. Louis. Arnold W. Donald, former chairman of Merisant and current president and chief executive officer of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International was the keynote speaker.

Dec. 14, 2007 -- The Skandalaris Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at Washington University in St. Louis has announced the semi-finalists in the 2008 Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation Competition. This year's semi-finalists represent a range of proposals including of a group of college students with a plan to provide counseling and mentoring services for low-income students, to an established nonprofit with a proposal for a mixed-use small business incubator.

The finalists for the 2007 Olin Cup Competition include six teams, four of which are student-owned or student-supported ventures. The annual business formation contest is organized by the Skandalaris Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at WUSTL. Ultimately, two teams will win up to $70,000 in seed investment capital and a student-owned or - supported team will win a $5,000 cash prize.

Six nonprofits win Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation Awards

Pioneering groups collect total of $125,000

May 4, 2007 -- On May 3, the winners of the second annual Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation Competition (SEIC) were announced at the Awards Ceremony on Washington University's Danforth Campus. Six awards totallyin $125,000 were presented to four local nonprofits and two students. The winning groups are: The Bridge St. Louis, One World Neighborhood Cafe, the Miriam Center, the Nest, MOAR for Life and Cents City.

May 1, 2007 -- The winners of the second annual SEIC awards will be announced May 3, 2007 at 6 p.m. in May Auditorium, Simon Hall on Washington University's Hilltop Campus. A total of $125,000 will be awarded to the nonprofit teams who have successfully proven that their ventures have social value and they have the ability to implement their plans. Leslie D. Michelson is the keynote speaker for the event. He is the founder, CEO, investor, advisor, and director for a portfolio of entrepreneurial healthcare, technology and real estate companies

Winners take home $120,000

March 28, 2007 -- The first round of Washington University's Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation Competition is complete and six semi-finalists are now in the running for $120,000 in funding. Also, three additional teams remain to compete for the $5,000 prize awarded to a student who has founded or supported a team. Winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on May 3, 2007.

For a chance to win $250, audience members can vote on their favorite business proposal.

March 19, 2007 -- Entrepreneurs with good business instincts and a sense of social responsibility will take their plans to the people this week at the second annual Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation Competition (SEIC). On Thursday, March 22nd at 6 p.m. sixteen semi-finalists will present their ideas for new social ventures in an "elevator pitch" first to a panel of judges and then to an audience of community members and students. Audience members will then vote on which pitch should win. The event takes place in the Lab Sciences auditorium on Washington University's Danforth Campus, and is free and open to the public.
