A member of the Washington University faculty since 1970, Berger received a doctoral degree in American history from the University of Wisconsin in 1966. He specializes in American foreign policy, with particular interest in U.S. relations with the Middle East and Latin America. He also co-teaches a seminar on American involvement in the Vietnam War.
