Bill Witbrodt is director of Student Financial Services for Washington University in St. Louis. He assumed that position July 1, 1996, after serving as the assistant controller with the University since 1992. As director of SFS, Witbrodt oversees the University's financial aid operation, which incorporates federal, state and local programs. At the graduate/professional student level, the Office of Student Financial Services administers student loan and work-study programs in concert with the eight academic divisions of the University.

Jan. 18, 2008 -- Student financial aid season is getting off to a shaky start. The industry is experiencing jitters as the fallout from the subprime credit crisis trickles down to lenders who make private loans, as well as companies that also issue federal loans. Bill Witbrodt, director of WUSTL student financial aid services, says he has not seen students directly affected yet, but expects that could change.


Parents Writing One Really Big Check

June 11, 2007 -- Story on how some parents are cutting the cost of a college education by paying for all four years upfront.
WUSTL, where tuition is $34,500 a year, allows families to prepay all four years of tuition, room and board.
But the school also offers a no-fee financing program by working with various lenders to offer home equity loans to allow parents to prepay and lock in rates.
WUSTL financial aid services director Bill Witbrodt comments.



Additional Background: Bill Witbrodt was named director of Student Financial Services July 1, 1996 after serving as assistant controller with the University since 1992.

A certified public accountant, Witbrodt earned a bachelor's degree in accounting in 1981 from the American University in Washington, D.C. He earned a master's of business administration in finance in 1990 from Webster University in St. Louis.

From 1980-85, he served as vice president for finance at AOV Industries Inc. in Washington, D.C. AOV Industries is a holding company with investments in the coal industry -- mining, processing, transporting and exporting. Witbrodt then joined Blue Cross Blue Shield of Missouri, based in St. Louis, from 1985-88. He was director of accounting and financial services at The Jewish Hospital of St. Louis from 1988 until 1992, when he joined Washington University as assistant controller.

Witbrodt has been involved in the development and implementation of several Universitywide process-improvement initiatives. He is one of the facilitators for the University's Service for Success and Internal Customer Service programs.

Locally, he has been an active community volunteer working with several nonprofit organizations, raising funds and helping them to develop organizationally. He headed St. Louis Effort for AIDS when that organization hired its first professional staff and gained United Way member agency status. As a co-founder of Food Outreach, he served as that organization's first treasurer.
