BRIEF FACTS:

The McDonnell International Scholars Academy has two basic component missions:

1. An innovative model of a global education and research partnership to strengthen graduate education and cultural exchange with students from leading foreign universities

2. Washington University’s response to new global challenges and opportunities for higher education that goes beyond ivy covered walls

McDonnell Academy Scholars:

Composed of future leaders in global business, government, and education

• Recruited from the university partners of the Academy (at least one per partner)
• Awarded full tuition and stipend support to complete a degree
• Participate in special seminars, retreats, and trips on political and cultural issues in the U.S. and the world
• Additional “Corporate Fellows” will have special opportunities to work with a corporate sponsor
• Mentor for each scholar, who also serves as an ambassador to the university partner from which the scholar is recruited

McDonnell Academy network:

A world-wide network of university partners to study global issues

• Initially composed of 15 premier universities in Asia
• More universities from other areas of the world to be added
• Each university partner visited annually by scholar and ambassador
• Ambassador charged with finding areas of expanded collaboration in education and research
• Potential areas of collaboration include environment, energy, culture and international conflict resolution
• First major conference in fall of 2006 at Washington University on “The Future Role and Impact of Global Universities”
