"Globalization, the State, and Society" conference to be held at School of Law Nov. 13-14

Nov. 4, 2003 -- The Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, the Whitney R. Harris Institute for Global Legal Studies and the Department of Political Science in Arts and Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis will present the conference, "Globalization, the State, and Society," Nov. 13-14 in the Bryan Cave Moot Courtroom of Anheuser Busch Hall. This event, which is free and open to the public, is planned as part of the University's Sesquicentennial celebration.

The conference is expected to draw an audience from a broad range of disciplines and interests as it explores issues and debates over the relationship between globalization and sovereignty and the prospects for the modern social welfare state and state-society bargains in an increasingly global economy.

Conference panels will focus on the following topics: global governance and the state; globalization and labor; globalization and migration; and globalization and social welfare. Each panel is interdisciplinary in scope, with panel members representing the fields of political science, economics, and law. Panelists include members of the University faculty and experts from around the world.
