WUSTL flag at half-staff in honor of Warren M. Shapleigh

Nov. 3, 2009 -- Warren M. Shapleigh, former president of the Ralston Purina Co. and an emeritus trustee of Washington University in St. Louis, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at McKnight Extended Care. He was 89.

Shapleigh was elected to WUSTL's Board of Trustees in 1966 and served on nine different board committees, including the Honorary Degree, Insurance, Development, Real Estate, Executive, Nominating, Undergraduate Experience, and Audit. He was elected an emeritus trustee in 1980.

He has been a member of the National Council for the university's School of Architecture since 1987, once serving as its chair. In 1996, he received the architecture school's Dean's Medal for Service.

An obituary is forthcoming.
