WUSTL to offer full-tuition scholarship for new Master of Public Health students with backgrounds in medicine and pre-professional health disciplines

May 13, 2009 -- The new Master of Public Health program (MPH) at Washington University's George Warren Brown School of Social Work is offering a full-tuition, merit-based scholarship to students who improve the health of communities and populations locally, nationally, and internationally. Undergraduate pre-medicine majors, medical students, and physicians are encouraged to apply.

The scholarship is one of four new full-tuition scholarships available to students in the inaugural class of the Brown School's new Master of Public Health program. Additional tuition assistance is also available to students entering the fall 2009 class.

"Tackling today's public health challenges requires a new approach to graduate public health education," said Timothy McBride, PhD, associate dean for public health. "Our innovative curriculum will provide students with a framework for understanding and addressing public health challenges that draws upon different disciplines, including architecture, communications, community development, economics, environmental engineering, law, medicine, and social work. We believe this approach will better prepare our graduates with the skills they need for a range of careers."

WUSTL's Brown School aims to create positive social change through its path-breaking research and educational excellence. The School's international community of faculty, students, and graduates works throughout St. Louis, across the country, and worldwide to apply new knowledge and use the best available evidence to impact policy, practice, and service delivery. The Brown School offers a doctoral degree, a Master of Public Health degree, and a Master of Social Work degree, which is ranked number one in the country by U.S. News and World Report. The School is home to 11 research centers and applied programs.
