"The Onion" Live at the Assembly Series

Chad Nackers and John Harris will take us "Inside the Onion," -- America's Finest News Source

By Kurt Mueller

April 6, 2009 -- Chad Nackers and John Harris will take us "Inside the Onion," — America's Finest News Source, at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 9 in Graham Chapel. Their talk is the Neureuther Library Lecture and is co-sponsored by "WUnderground," the University's premiere (only) satirical newspaper. The event is part of the Assembly Series.

Two students working out of their University of Wisconsin dorm printed the first issue of the satirical newspaper, "The Onion," in Madison, Wisconsin in 1988. In the early years, the paper had a local focus but is now the source for satire nationwide. It moved its operations to New York City in 2001. Staff writer John Harris joined the team in 2007 after three years of writing freelance for the publication, and Chad Nackers joined the staff in 1997.

Recent Onion articles include "Getting Randomly Picked to Make Half Court Shots Now Best Way to Earn a Living," "Area Man Realizes He Doesn't Even Know When Barack Obama's Birthday Is," and from the Science and Technology beat, "Annoying Stickler Insists On Every Detail of Space Mission Being Exactly Right." For more entertainment, "The Onion" can be found at www.theonion.com.
