Young, Black and Ready to Vote, a panel discussion co-sponsored by WUSTL’s Association of Black Students, will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 at the St. Louis Regional Arts Commission in University City.
Also sponsored by Campus Progress, the youth outreach division of the Washington, D.C.-based Center for American Progress, the discussion will feature Malcom Glenn, president of the Harvard Crimson and blogger for the Youth Vote Blog ’08, Pierce Freelon, founder of the blog Blackademics.org.
“We expect that the panel will provide a forum for students and community members to discuss the relevance and importance of this year’s presidential election to the Black community,” said Tiffany Johnson, president of the Association of Black Students. “We also hope people can gain a better understanding of the historical context of the sociopolitical issues at stake in this election.”
The panelists will encourage African American students into political engagement by examining the political state of the African American community, discussing the importance of the young African American vote and allowing students a space where they can ask questions and receive answers about the issues important to them in this election and beyond.
