Washington University in St. Louis will host a University-wide Public Service Fair from 3-5 p.m. Tuesday, September 23. This event will feature more than 60 non-profit organizations seeking volunteers and interns for a variety of opportunities. Sponsored by the Gephardt Institute for Public Service and the Community Service Office, the fair marks the first time that community agencies will be gathered on campus to meet with interested students, faculty and staff.
“This is a wonderful chance for the campus community to build connections with the community and find meaningful volunteer opportunities. Community agencies are eager to share these opportunities with WUSTL students, staff and faculty, and we’re excited to be able to offer this special event. ” says Stephanie Kurtzman, director of the Community Service Office and associate director of the Gephardt Institute.
The public service fair will take place in the Danforth University Center Commons. Refreshments will be served and attendees can help with the creation of a public art installation. Related programs will be offered at the DUC throughout the day, including:
5:00-6:00 pm Postgraduate Programs in Community Service or Public Service – Students can gain an insider’s perspective on programs such as the Peace Corps, Americorps, etc. Co-sponsored by Alumni & Development and the Career Center. DUC, Room 234
5:00-6:00 pm Networking for Pro Bono Services – Graduate and professional students and faculty can meet with agencies and exchange ideas on potential pro bono work. Co-sponsored by the Graduate Professional Council and the School of Law. DUC, Room 300
6:00-7:00 pm LGBT Community Advocacy Open House – Students, faculty, and staff join an informal gathering of non-profit representatives who share issues of common interest to LGBT communities. Co-sponsored by the Coordinator for LGBT Student Involvement and Leadership. DUC Formal Lounge.
