Party with a Purpose: Plan your future with University College

June 11, 2008 -- University College — the adult, continuing-education division of Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis — will host "Party with a Purpose" from 5:30-8 p.m. June 25 at The Grind, located at 4239 Lindell Blvd.

The event, which is free and open to the public, offers partygoers the opportunity to learn about University College as they enjoy complimentary cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, mingle with current students, alumni, staff and faculty and network with like-minded individuals interested in enhancing their education.

"Our enrollment is higher than it has been in 20 years, but I would like to extend our reach further and make even better use of the outstanding faculty and resources we have," says Bob Wiltenburg, Ph.D., dean of University College.

While many associate Washington University with high academic requirements, expensive tuition and low acceptance rates, adults with a broad range of qualifications can earn a degree or take a course for personal enrichment at Washington University through University College, Wiltenburg says. The program gives part-time, evening and summer-school students of all ages the opportunity to attend Washington University, a world-class research institution, at an affordable price.

Washington University has offered outstanding continuing education in arts and sciences as well as professional programs since 1915. In 1931, University College was formally established to serve the diverse educational needs of adult residents in the St. Louis area. Through University College, students can earn various undergraduate and graduate degrees, undergraduate and graduate certificates, or take individual courses for personal enrichment.
