Edison Theatre is the only fully technically-equipped, proscenium thrust theatre on the Washington University campus and plays a varied role on campus. Edison is home to the professional presenting series OVATIONS! and ovations! for young people, showcasing touring artists and companies both national and international in scope; Edison serves as a teaching facility for the Washington University Performing Arts Department which produces three main stage Edison shows each year and serves as a performance venue for Washington University student organizations; Edison is also one of the few theatres in the St. Louis area to serve as a rental house for locally-based presenting arts organizations. At its capacity, Edison Theatre seats 656.

Since 1973 the Edison Theatre OVATIONS! series has presented both new works and innovative interpretations of classical material by nationally and internationally renowned artists. The 2008-09 season, the Edison's 36th, will feature more than a dozen dance, music and theatrical events — including several St. Louis and world premieres — designed to challenge, educate and inspire.

In the 1980s Dan Zanes was lead singer for the Indie garage-pop band the Del Fuegos. But in recent years Zanes has become the hottest thing to hit children's music since "Frère Jaque," releasing half-a-dozen critically acclaimed all-ages albums that reinvent American roots-rock. On Saturday, May 10, Dan Zanes & Friends present a pair of shows as part of Edison Theatre's popular ovations! for young people series.
