During a practicum for the World Agricultural Forum, Washington University M.B.A. students realized that using ethanol as an alternative fuel in developing countries isn't cost effective. Instead, they stumbled upon the jatropha plant, a hardy shrub with seeds that can easily produce oil to power basic generators. Aug. 20, 2004 -- The John M. Olin School of Business at Washington University in St. Louis will serve as the exclusive local host for a one-day leadership teleconference for business executives and entrepreneurs and other current or aspiring leaders. Top business leaders from around the globe will join former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, renowned business author Dr. Stephen Covey, business icon Donald Trump and former GE leader Jack Welch for the Tenth Annual Worldwide Luminary Series Conference, to be broadcast live Oct. 13 to the Marriott Pavilion Downtown.


New Olin professorship

Bellwether Foundation establishes professorship in entrepreneurship; will be named in honor of Robert Brookings Smith

Major gifts from The Bellwether Foundation and from Nancy Morrill Smith will create the Robert Brookings Smith Distinguished Professorship in Entrepreneurship for Washington University's John M. Olin School of Business, it was announced by Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton. Barton H. Hamilton, Ph.D., professor of economics, management and entrepreneurship in the John M. Olin School of Business, will be appointed as the first holder in a ceremony planned for later this year.
