Washington University's McDonnell International Scholars see American politics up close
 It is the group's first visit to the nation's capital

2007 -- To better understand American politics, culture, history and government, a group of 18 recent graduates from Asia's top research universities are visiting Washington, D.C., March 22-25, as part of their graduate education at Washington University in St. Louis. These graduate students are participants in Washington University's McDonnell International Scholars Academy.

University of Tokyo graduate begins prestigious American fellowship
 Part of McDonnell International Scholars program

March 19,
2007 -- Ryotaro Kato, M.D., has been named a McDonnell International Scholar at Washington University in St. Louis. He holds a medical degree from the University of Tokyo, which is one of 16 leading Asian universities partnered with Washington University in St. Louis in the McDonnell International Scholars Academy, along with two leading research institutions in Israel and two in Turkey.

 National University of Singapore graduate beings prestigious American fellowship

Dec. 1,
2006 -- An-Chun Chien, the daughter of Cynthia Chien-Lan Mo and Mark Mu-Min Chien of Singapore, has been named a McDonnell International Scholar at Washington University in St. Louis. She holds a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the National University of Singapore, which is one of 15 leading Asian universities partnered with Washington University in St. Louis in the McDonnell International Scholars Academy.

Stone appointed director of International Studies
Sept. 1998 - M. Priscilla Stone, Ph.D., has been appointed director of the Office of International Studies and adjunct professor of anthropology in Arts and Sciences, according to Edward S. Macias, Ph.D., executive vice chancellor and dean of Arts and Sciences. Stone will direct the University initiative to expand the curriculum and programming in this major area of undergraduate and graduate education. In addition, the existing functions of international studies -- including funding programs such as the Fulbright and international program development -- will continue.
International and Area Studies program to start in 2002
Dec. 2000 - International travel, global exchange, communications and technology play a large role in today's fast-paced business world. In the future, leaders will need to be trained in the issues of diversity and a global economy. The Program of International Studies in Arts & Sciences is planning a new academic option aimed at helping students meet the challenges of our rapidly changing world. The new program, called International and Area Studies, could start as early as the fall of 2002.
Mertha named recipient of Harbison fellowship
Nov. 2002 - Andrew Mertha, Ph.D., assistant professor of political science and of International and Area Studies (IAS), both in Arts & Sciences, has been named the Earle H. and Suzanne S. Harbison Faculty Fellow. The fellowship provides research and teaching support for three years to a talented junior faculty member in Arts & Sciences.
