 WUSTL students to attend national conventions

Aug. 21,
2008 -- Senior Hana Greenberg and junior Scott Friedman, both in Arts & Sciences, will gain an inside look at the U.S. political process by participating in a Washington Center educational program focused on the election year. As part of the program, Greenberg will attend the Democratic National Convention in Denver while Friedman will travel to Minneapolis to attend the Republican National Convention. Both will receive media credentials through Student Life, the University's student newspaper, to have access to exclusive events at the conventions.

Gwen Ifill, a longtime correspondent and moderator for public broadcasting programs The NewsHour and Washington Week, has been selected to moderate the Oct. 2 vice presidential debate at Washington University in St. Louis, the CPD has announced.

Calling it "one of the great traditions of Washington University," Chancellor Mark S. Wrighton announced during a news conference Nov. 19 that the University will host the 2008 vice presidential debate, scheduled for 8 p.m. CDT on Oct. 2. Video available.

Lehrer, Brokaw Among Fall Debate Hosts

2008 -- The Commission on Presidential Debates announced the moderators for this fall's four general election debates. PBS anchors Jim Lehrer and Gwen Ifill will moderate one debate each, with Mr. Lehrer hosting the first presidential debate Sept. 26 at the University of Mississippi, and Ms. Ifill hosting the vice-presidential debate Oct. 2 at WUSTL.
