WUSTL ponders its calling
 Universities' role in democracy examined in Saturday seminar series, Feb. 7-28

2009 -- What is the proper role of American higher education in shaping the values and ambitions of a free democratic society, and more specifically, what are Washington University's responsibilities as a citizen of the greater St. Louis community, the nation and the world? Getting the campus and surrounding community to reflect on these questions is the goal of the Master of Liberal Arts program's "Democracy and the University" seminar series.

Jazz at Holmes
 Fall series begins Sept. 11 with clarinetist Scott Alberici

Sept. 4,
2008 -- Clarinetist Scott Alberici and his quartet will launch Washington University's Jazz at Holmes Series from 8 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11. The series, which was launched in 1996, features professional jazz musicians from around St. Louis and abroad performing in Holmes Lounge — a casual, coffeehouse-style setting — most Thursday evenings throughout the fall and spring semesters.

 University College offers new strategic communication program

2008 -- Working professionals looking to develop their writing and communication skills can now earn a Certificate in Strategic Communication at University College, Washington University in St. Louis' adult, continuing-education division of Arts & Sciences. The new, 21-credit program features courses in writing and strategic communication taught by well-known communication professionals in the St. Louis area.

2008 -- University College — the adult, continuing-education division of Arts & Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis — will host "Party with a Purpose" from 5:30-8 p.m. June 25 at The Grind, located at 4239 Lindell Blvd. The event, which is free and open to the public, offers partygoers the opportunity to learn about University College as they enjoy complimentary cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, mingle with current students, alumni, staff and faculty and network with like-minded individuals interested in enhancing their education.
