Protest planned against Schlafly receiving honorary degree

Some faculty and students at Washington University plan to protest at commencement to show their disapproval for the university's decision to award conservative leader Phyllis Schlafly an honorary degree on May 16.

The director of the Woman and Gender Studies program, Mary Ann Dzuback (ZOO' bak), says she believes there are plans by some to turn their backs when Schlafly is honored, and students may have signs or wear armbands to show their opposition.

She said Schlafly should not be honored because of her stand against feminism and the Equal Rights Amendment. ...
