Will Miller launches School of Architecture's spring Monday Night Lecture Series Feb. 3

Will Miller, chairman and chief executive officer of The Irwin Financial Corp. in Columbus, Ind., will launch the Washington University School of Architecture's spring Monday Night Lecture Series with a talk Feb. 3.

Miller will present the 2003 Eugene Mackey Lecture, titled Architecture in Columbus, Indiana: A Somewhat Biased History, at 6 p.m. in Steinberg Auditorium, located in the Gallery of Art, Steinberg Hall, near the intersection of Forsyth and Skinker boulevards. The lecture is free and open to the public and will be preceded by a reception at 5:30 p.m. in the School of Architecture, located in Givens Hall, immediately west of Steinberg. Miller, who also serves as chairman of the Tipton Lakes Co., a real estate development firm, was named to the board of directors of Irwin Financial in 1985 and named chairman in 1990. He previously served as president of Irwin Management Co., a family investment management firm not affiliated with Irwin Financial. From 1981-83, he was an associate at the venture capital firm E.M. Warburg, Pincus & Co. in New York City. Earlier in his career, he worked as a manager on the assembly line at Cummins Engine Company in South Carolina.

Miller graduated cum laude from Yale University with a B.A. in English in 1978 and received his M.B.A. degree from Stanford University in 1981. He currently serves on the Yale University Investment Committee as well as on the boards of several nonprofit organizations, including The National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.; the Taft School in Watertown, Conn.; the Cummins Foundation; the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership; and The Heritage Fund of Bartholomew County, among others. In addition, he sits on the board of directors of Cummins Inc.; the Tennant Co.; and the New Perspective Fund/EuroPacific Growth Fund/New World Fund.

Irwin Financial serves consumers and small businesses in the United States and Canada and consists of five major operating companies: Irwin Mortgage Corp., Irwin Union Bank and Trust Co., Irwin Home Equity Corp., Irwin Capital Holdings Corp., and Irwin Ventures Inc. The company is traded on the New York Stock Exchange and in 2001 had net revenues of $401 million.
